Meet Your Guide
Lynda Gayle Abner
Chronic pain survivor. Community builder. 25 years navigating fibromyalgia and neuropathy — and still standing.
"I didn't become a guide because I have all the answers. I became one because I survived the questions."— Lynda Gayle Abner, Founder
The Beginning
Twenty-five years ago, pain changed everything.
I was a teacher. I loved it — the kids, the classroom, the sense of purpose that came with shaping young lives. Then fibromyalgia arrived, and neuropathy followed close behind. Slowly, then all at once, chronic pain dismantled the life I had built.
I lost my teaching career. I lost marriages. I lost family support — the people who were supposed to be there when life got hard. I sat in doctors' offices and felt dismissed. I sat in my own home and felt completely, devastatingly alone.
If you know that feeling — really know it — then you already understand why Pioneers in Pain exists.
The Survival
I kept going — even when I didn't know why.
There is no clean, triumphant moment I can point to. Surviving chronic pain isn't a montage. It's one quiet, relentless decision to keep waking up and trying again — even when trying means simply making it to the couch.
Over 25 years I learned to navigate the medical system, to advocate fiercely for myself, to mourn the life I thought I'd have, and to build something real inside the life I do have. I learned what helps and what's a myth. I learned that community is not a luxury — it is medicine.
What I didn't have — what I wish I'd had — was someone who had actually been there. Not a clinician. Not a wellness influencer. Someone who had lost what I lost and was still standing. That's what I want to be for you.
The Mission
No one navigates this alone. Not anymore.
Pioneers in Pain exists because isolation is one of the cruelest things chronic pain does to a person. It takes the energy you need to fight the pain and uses it to fight the loneliness too.
When I couldn't find the community I needed, I decided to build it. Every person who joins this space is someone who no longer has to figure it out alone — and that matters more to me than anything else this community could accomplish.
What I bring to this community
You're not getting a program.
You're getting a person.
25 Years of Lived Experience
I've spent a quarter century navigating every dimension of fibromyalgia and neuropathy — the medical system, the relationships, the grief, and the small daily victories.
A Guide, Not a Protocol
I don't hand you a 12-week program and wish you luck. I meet you where you are, because I know the terrain. Every member's path is different.
Real Talk, Not Wellness Clichés
No toxic positivity. No "just try yoga." Honest, empathetic conversations about what chronic pain actually looks like — and what actually helps.
A Community That Believes You
Members of Pioneers in Pain don't have to explain themselves. We already know. We show up for each other without skepticism or judgment.
Hard-Won Knowledge
From navigating disability systems to finding the right providers to protecting your mental health — I share what I learned so you don't have to learn it the hard way.
Radical Empathy
I built this space to be the thing I desperately needed and couldn't find. Every decision I make for this community is filtered through that.
